Barbara of Paper

17.07.2015

Cafeteria Barbara (at old, underground passage at Świdnicka street) was a municipal dining room and an iconic meeting place of many Wrocław citizens many years ago. Upon the renovation, a modern seat of the main organiser of the events connected with the award of the title of European Capital of Culture to Wrocław for year 2016 was established there, including ESK info desk. However, Barbara must mainly remain an open meeting space and site of various activities.

From its opening in June 2015 to the end of 2016, each Tuesday in Barbara is focused on a widely understood region. The Museum of Papermaking was a Tuesday host on 14 July.

According to the announcements, the press conference on our attempts to enter the paper mill in Duszniki to the UNESCO world heritage list as well as a new banknote collection was organised. We encouraged our visitors to participate in the approach Festival of Paper (Saturday – Sunday 25-26 July). Of course, our mobile station for moulding paper was also available, therefore, each person visiting Barbara on that day had the possibility to manually make a paper sheet with a method coming from the medieval times. A Wrocław artist specialising in paper art, Adrianna Konopniak-Karpowicz, also presented her works.

A Paper Tuesday with participation of the Museum of Papermaking was also an opportunity to meet Marek Sztark, a coordinator of cooperation of ESK (European Capital of Culture) Wrocław 2016 and the region of Lower Silesia.
