Podróż przez prawie dwa tysiąclecia papiernictwa

Czerpiemy papier od ponad 400 lat!

Museum

Our museum is not only exhibits and descriptions. Do not expect standard museum silence. A lot of things happen here!

Paper is still produced in paper mill in Duszniki-Zdrój.

Our Papermakers – just as their predecessors for over four centuries – immerse sieves in the vat and impress each layer of paper pulp on water absorbing interleaf. That is how each single sheet is made.

Papermaking

You can do it on your own

While visiting museum you will see how the paper is made with the use of the method known since the Middle Ages. Moreover – by taking part in the workhops, you will make a piece of paper on your own. You can also take part in other practical and creativity developing activities, obviously with the use of paper.

Workshops

Paper Festival

We organise it at the last weekend of July. Taking part in the festival as well as visiting the Museum at that time is free and the offer of active time spending is extremaly attractive: paper making and decorating, investigating its properties, printing. Additionally, you can find numerous artistic, craft and market stalls which offer local products.

Paper Festival

The night of the Museums, The Great Orchestra and other events

The night of the Museums – national cultural and educational initiative – is also the night of the Museum of Papermaking. The visits are free at that time and there are always some additional attractions – paper art. Workshops, a new temporary exhibition, interesting show or even performance.

We are also involved in the implementation of the European Days of Cultural Heritage activities by organising e.g. the lectures about the history of Duszniki-Zdrój.

Special attractions, usually with the use of the paper creation workshops, are organized while events such as Children’s Day, Grandmother’s and Grandfather’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Christmas and so on. For several year, the paper hearts for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity have been made in paper mill in Duszniki-Zdrój.

Outdoor artistic workshops

organized by us in Duszniki-Zdrój are often connected thematically with the historic paper mill object. There are usually students of Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of the lecturers but also the the students of the surrounding high schools and secondary schools who in turn are under the guidance of the Fine Art students.

Paper art

The artists who often use paper pulp or even just paper as the creation material are often the guests of the paper mill in Duszniki-Zdrój. They use our mill, creating their new works and illustrating artistic methods. They also exhibit their works. Among them, there are also the foreign artists. In 2001, there was the International Congress IAPMA – The International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists.

You can make paper everywhere!

The cultural and educational activity of the Museum of Papermaking is not limited to its address. Beyond ‘the wandering exhibitions’, we also use the transportable papermaking machine to organise the workshops in different places for different targets. It is connected with the popularisation of the knowledge about paper and our paper mill. They are most often presented during festivals, cultural and promotion events and tourism fairs. Our workshops were present at the ‘Woodstock Festival Poland’ and even in the TV programme ‘What song is it?’
