11.10.2022

We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Neighbors-Banknotes of the Polish-Czech borderland” . “Sousedé. Bankovky polsko-českého pohraničí”, which will take place on 7.10.2022, at 13:00.

Paper money has for many years held an honored place in the circle of interest of the Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki-Zdrój. The numismatic collection includes not only Polish but also foreign banknotes, including those of the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia, an almost complete collection of which was assembled to interest our neighbors from the Czech Republic in the museum’s exhibition and educational offer. Both our money and that of our neighbors “from across the southern border” will soon be on display at the museum.

The exhibition in question has an educational character. By showing the artistic and historical qualities of Czechoslovak and Czech banknotes, we want to present the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic in a nutshell. At the exhibition we will present paper money from all issues of Czechoslovak and Czech banknotes from 1918 to the present, including unique vouchers from the Terezín ghetto. We also intend to draw attention to the similarities and differences between crowns and zlotys, hence the exhibition will feature Polish banknotes from analogous periods.

After the ceremonial opening of the exhibition, we are honored to invite Dr. Marcin Markowski, historian, art historian, numismatist and collector of paper money, to give a lecture.

The project is being carried out with the National Bank of Poland as part of its economic education program.
