Fire extinguishing system ready and checked!
April saw completion of the external and internal mist fire extinguishing system and functional tests (SAT) of the system. The investment was officially accepted and commissioned on 24 May, the ceremony was witnessed by Maria Ptak, the head of the Province Heritage Monuments Protection Office in Wrocław. Also, Piotr Lewandowski, the Mayor of Duszniki-Zdrój and Karolina Wołoszyn-Cymbalista, his deputy, were present.
The museum building, from the outside, is protected by 645 mist nozzles; the interior part of the installation features 8 fire extinguishing sections. A total of 696 mist nozzles were installed inside the museum. The entire installation is held together by a specialist network of pipes connected with section valves that also feature a pump unit driven by a Diesel engine. In case of detection of a fire danger, the system automatically turns on, pumping water mixed with foam producing extinguishing agent from the underground container to the nozzles. At the same time, the Units of State Fire Station are notified of the event that has occurred.
The installation of the fire extinguishing system, worth PLN 2 million, was part of the project Upgrade and adaptation of the historic drying facility for cultural purposes as well as fire protection of the Museum of Papermaking complex in Duszniki-Zdrój, along with maintenance and digitisation of Museum collections. The money was granted from Norwegian and EEA funds with part of it coming from Polish sources.
